About Erotic University

(This is the press release when we opened the doors of our Los Angeles campus in 2003)

With the official opening of Erotic University, Los Angeles has a permanent home for adult sex education. Weekly classes cover a wide variety of topics, from relationship issues to sexual how-to.

Erotic University is bringing in some of the top educators from around the country. Their second class featured popular sex educator and author Tristan Taormino, who taught Kicking it Up a Notch: Taking Sex to the Next Level. It covered ideas for already sexually experienced couples to explore even further. Taormino writes for the Village Voice, is author of several books on sexuality, and directed, produced and starred in the award-winning video series "Tristan Taormino's Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women."

Classes from that first Summer Session included an Adult Toy Master Class, Swinging 101, Proactive Flirting, Adult Webmastering, and the beginning of a five part series on BDSM. Most classes run two hours and cost around $20 to $35.

The Fall Session features included classes on Tantric Sex, Pole Dancing, Orgasm Techniques, and even religion, with a class on what the Bible really has to say about sexuality.

Authors and sex educators Jeff and Kris Booth founded Erotic University to promote healthier attitudes about sex and greater acceptance of sexual diversity. They believe that the more you know about sex, the better your sex life will be. "This is especially important now," Jeff says, "Because sex education in the schools has completely failed."

According to Jeff, "Social and religious conservatives have decisively won the battle against sex education in the schools. The Abstinence Only education taught in most schools and mandated by the Federal Government in order to get governmental funding is riddled with misinformation and pseudo-science, and is intended to promote abstinence by making students afraid of sex.  Many sexologists believe that this approach is leading to an increased incidence of sexual dysfunction and sexual dissatisfaction, even in marriage."

Their overall goal is to help people overcome the negative messages and misinformation they have been exposed to about sexuality. The best way to do that, they believe, is to give students access to the best information available from some of the leading authorities on sexuality and sexual practices.

Jeff was surprised by how many mainstream sexologists and Ph.D.s have been enthusiastic about the concept. "Frankly, I thought they'd be too conservative to get on board our idea of making sex education playful and fun and not so dry and clinical, but many have told me that it is exactly what people need."

Classes are held in downtown Los Angeles in a permanent classroom. They also have a screening room for classes requiring video, a larger area with a stage that holds 150, and even four poles in a nightclub type environment for their pole dancing classes. The classrooms are inside the 30,000 square foot Entertanium Studios, a motion picture studio. It also has ample private parking, a curated erotic art museum, and over 30 standing sets that are used regularly by both mainstream and adult video producers.

While cities across the country have had regular sex education classes, many sex educators have complained about there being no venue for them in one of the biggest cities in the world. With Erotic University, they now have a place in Los Angeles to reach a huge potential market.

The classes will have limits, Jeff cautions. "While we will be specific and explicit in the classes, they definitely won't be hands-on. That gets a little too close to the legal limits and could make students uncomfortable. We will certainly give people homework assignments, though, and I bet no one complains about the homework."

Additional information on classes is available from the EroticUniversity.com Web site.
