Biblical scenes then became a popular way for artists to introduce nudity and sexual themes, which they did for the stories about Bathsheba, Lot and his Daughters, Susanna and the Elders, Samson and Delilah, and others. This gallery looks at the way artists depicted these scenes from the 1400’s through to the twentieth century.

The Nude Outdoors Photographing nudes outdoors in the early days of photography was challenging. You needed to find a spot with some privacy, and you had none of the comforts or control you had in a studio. This collection represents the works of photographers who were willing to brave the elements, and the importance of the 1925 introduction of the Leica camera to outdoor nude photography.

The Male Nude in Art There is little surprise that the female form was a far more common subject with artists. Even today in film, the male nude is much less common, and often gets a more restrictive rating from the MPAA than a similar scene with just female nudity. Still, there were many great appreciators of the male form, from the Greeks onward.
