Your question:

Lubes and Conception

Q: Just a question about k-y lubrication- Is it alright to use it if you are trying to conceive?

A: Yes. Any lube is as long as it does not contain a spermicide. Avoid products containing nonoxynol-9. I assume that you are referring to the new KY lubricant product designed for sexual use as opposed to KY Jelly, which is designed for medical use and gets gummy very quickly when used sexually.

Lubes and Allergies

Q: Thanks  to your guide for adult toys; its great. Concerning the part related to lubes, I have got the following problem. My partner is allergic to paraben. By any chance do you know if any of the lubes you propose are without paraben? Also, I am living in Europe.  Are all the lubes available there?

A: We do know that one of the leading European sellers, Wet Light, contains Propylparaben and Methylparaben. They are included because they are antimicrobial & antibacterial. They are also found in popular lubes such as Astroglide. Some people do have a reaction to Propylparaben that can cause contact dermatitis. This is a common ingredient in many products, including shampoos and hand lotions.  Obviously, if any lube product creates a rash, you should discontinue use. Another leading European product, Eros, does not contain either, and is a good choice if you have sensitive skin as it is one of the most pure products on the market. These products are also widely available in the U.S.
