Sex Instruction on Video
Alexander Institute

Men's Health Magazine rates the Loving Sex series as the best how-to sexuality series for couples. They have one of the most diverse selections of videos we have seen anywhere. Besides their Loving Sex series, they also have a softer less explicit version of the series called Intimate Loving. Their titles include What Men Want, What Women Want, Lover's Massage, Sexual Fitness, Swinging: From Fantasy to Reality, Sex Around the House, Erotic Seduction: Dressing And Undressing For Great Sex, and Toys for Great Sex.

Meir Sharony is President of the Alexander Institute, which produces the Loving Sex series. His background is in television producing and directing, and in 1992 he worked on a sex instructional show for teens that he hoped to get on television. Not unexpectedly, that project met tremendous resistance and he eventually had to abandon it. It got him thinking about the topic, and he turned his attention to the adult market.

He sees an expanding market for adult videos, in part because women are finding them more accessible through the Internet and at couple's boutiques. He feels that women are more open to learning and dealing with sexuality at a higher level than men, who, he says, often "already think they know everything."

What he tries to do with his video series is to make them very real. In fact, he considers the main philosophy behind the videos to be that they sell reality, not fantasy. They shoot in a home, often the home of the couple being taped, in a documentary style. They try to make the situations as real as possible. While he prefers to use adult performers already comfortable with having sex on camera, he also uses adult performers that are real couples in long term committed relationships. He sees the contributions of these couples as very important, as they provide relationship, history, and chemistry. While they have an expert to provide credibility, a lot of the material comes from the interactions with the couples. They even do man on the street interviews.

He also eschews the standard talking head expert approach, which is why he gets performers such as Juli Ashton to act as a sexuality reporter, talking with the experts. Juli is also able to then go and do what was talked about. The blending of adult performers and experts is relatively rare in the educational market, and although we have not seen any of the videos, we can see how it could create a great synergy.

You can purchase their videos directly from the Loving Sex site.
