A good example of the new breed of sex instructors is Arte, author of "Secrets of Sensual Lovemaking." He created and hosts the New Sex Now video, in which he teaches G-Spot stimulation techniques and female ejaculation (read our review of his tape here). 

Learning the techniques from a friend, he has used them on three continents. One of the complaints we have often had is that many of the experts who try to instruct you on how to give a great hand job to a woman just have not had their hands inside enough women to really be experts. Their knowledge is primarily theoretical. Arte has obviously had a lot of personal experience with a lot of different women, and while that might make a number of PhD'd sex experts shudder or treat him dismissively, the fact is that personal experience with a variety of partners teaches you a lot. Would you listen to a food expert who had only prepared meals for his wife? As Arte notes, these are ""Not medical issues, they are issues of pleasure."

"The amazing thing I've learned in my work, is how little medical science knows about the female body, and how little it cares about women, their health, or their pleasure." He has a quote from a gynecologist on his site who has never had a class where the g-spot was discussed, and had never discussed the topic with any of her patients during her career. There is also another quote from a gynecological nurse, who learned how to have g-spot orgasms for the first time from the video when she was in her forties.

Arte is finding that there is also a market for less explicit videos where all he does is describe the techniques. "It's kind of at odds with my work, because what I'm trying to do with my work is to get them to be okay with their sex, get them to relish it and revel in it and get to their true animal nature through sexual expertise." He finds it challenging to work through the shyness, squeamishness, and the inability of many women to even admit that they are interested in this subject. All the more reason why instructional tapes are so important.
